History

Around 1800
(late Edo period)

The production of jarred vinegar was started in Fukuyama-cho, Kagoshima, Japan.

1975

Akio Sakamoto named the Artisan Amber Rice Vinegar, made from 100% rice and produced by the traditional process, 'Kurozu', and started selling it nationwide in Japan.

1981

The Fukuyama factory was certified as a JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) authorized factory.

1991

The rice vinegar produced in a handcrafted ceramic jar, (Kurozu), became the 1st nationwide certified product by the 'Home Country Certification Food Product Mark
(E Mark) System', accorded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

1996

The Sakamoto Kurozu, Inc. received the 'Food Industry Excellent Company' award from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

1999

Sakamoto Kurozu Apple Flavored obtained approval to be labeled as a 'specially designated health food (foods for specified health use)' from Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

2003

The Fukuyama factory obtained production approval for 'Organic Agricultural Products (Organic JAS)' from an authorized organization registered in Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

2006

The production of rice vinegar in handcrafted ceramic jars in Kagoshima, was the 1st Authorized Product of a nationwide brand to be recognized as 'an authentic regional product' from Japan Food Industry Center (JAFIC).

The Fukuyama factory received the 'Kagoshima Governor's Award' as an excellent food hygienic facility from Kagoshima Prefecture Food Hygiene Association.

The Fukuyama factory acquired the
ISO 9001:2000 certification.

2008
April

The Fukuyama factory acquired the
JUSE-HACCP certification.
